The Food Project
Background
Many young people from low income families in Oaxaca need and receive support so they can attend school. However, in too many instances teachers reported that many of these children were falling asleep during school time. In Oaxaca this is cause for expulsion. Clearly, the children were not receiving the regular nutrition they needed in order to be physically ready to learn.

The Project
CANFRO donations help provide a hot meal 5 days a week, year-round (except in Christmas Week and Holy Week) for 100 students and their families at: Casa Jodi and Casa Emilie, the two locations ofย El Centro de Esperanza Infantil A.C./The Centre of Hope for Children (founded by the U.S. organization Oaxaca Youth Empowerment).
Outcomes
Regular nutritious meals give children and youth the energy they need to participate fully in school.

It costs about $8500 CAD a year to fully fund this program – less than 40 cents a meal. Any donation amount is welcome.
