Libros para Pueblos

Since the mid 1990’s, Libros para Pueblos has established more than 70 children’s libraries in villages throughout the poorest areas of the state. Libraries are located in either a school or a municipal building at the request of local authorities. The collection begins with 400 books and when a library is established Libros para Pueblos helps the village maintain and expand the collection. Their goal is to provide attractive books so that the children of Oaxaca have the opportunity to learn to read for fun. They offer opportunities for personal growth through the promotion of reading and are striving to promote a lifelong search for knowledge through the written word. This non-profit project is overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors and administered by professional staff.
